MEET THE TEAM

SOPHIE ASTELL| Chief Executive Officer

Sophie is in her honours year of a Bachelor of Philosophy at the University of Western Australia, majoring in Law and Society, and English and Literary Studies. She has volunteered with Teach Learn Grow as a marketing officer and program coordinator, and completed her McCusker internship at Child Australia within policy development. Her WAUC experience includes projects with Teach Learn Grow, Wungening, OzHarvest, and EndoWA. She is passionate about educational equality in WA, and empowering survivors of family and domestic violence.

Daniel Kerfoot | Chief Operating Officer

Daniel is in his third year of a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Western Australia, majoring in Philosophy and Business Law. Daniel volunteers as a consumer partner at Bethesda Health Care. He has also worked as a clerk and paralegal at Peloton Legal and Circle Green Community, and has completed an internship at EY. During his time in WAUC, Daniel has worked with clients including inTouch and Employment Plus. Daniel is passionate about social justice, particularly in relation to unfair dismissals and workplace sexual harassment.

ALASTOR TAN | Chief Financial Officer and Internal Compliance manager

Alastor is a fourth-year student at the University of Western Australia, undertaking a combined Bachelor and Master of Economics with a double major in Economics and Finance. He has completed an internship with PricewaterhouseCoopers and currently serves as Co-President of the UWA Consulting Society. Alastor has worked on projects with organisations such as Wungening, OzHarvest, and InTouch, He is particularly passionate about addressing homelessness and improving alcohol and other drug services.

IASH BASHIR| chief technology officer

Iash is in his final year of a Masters of Professional Engineering at the University of Western Australia. He has completed engineering internships at Woodside Energy, Santos Ltd, Mining and Hydraulic Supplies and SEA Global. He is also the Co-Chairperson of UWA Young Engineers and the Project Manager at UWA Aerospace. Iash’s WAUC experience includes Employment Plus, Pelvic Pain, and LYF. Iash is passionate about educational equality, particularly in rural areas.

RYAN TAN | client Relations manager

Ryan is a student at UWA completing a Masters of Professional Engineering at the University of Western Australia. In 2025, he completed a Bachelor of Philosophy, majoring in Engineering Science and received First Class Honours. He has completed an engineering internship at Fortescue and is a supervisor at Swissport. Through WAUC, Ryan has worked on cases with Pelvic Pain Foundation and Zero2Hero. Ryan is particularly passionate about educational equality.

ARABELLA zocher| VOLUNTEERS manager

Arabella is in her second year of a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Western Australia.  In 2023, she completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Notre Dame. She has extensive volunteer experience with the Notre Dame Volunteer Network, and with nonprofits such as Ronald McDonald, St Patrick’s Community, and Red Cross. Arabella’s WAUC experience includes cases with Media Diversity Australia (MDA) and Wungening. Arabella is particularly passionate about supporting the local community.  

DAVID BERRY| Recruitment manager

David is in his fourth year of a combined Bachelor of Economics and Commerce at the University of Western Australia, majoring in Financial Economics and Business Analytics. He completed an internship at the Department of Communities Child Protection team in 2024, and is an Economic Analyst at the UWA Student Managed Investment Fund. His WAUC experience includes projects with the Bread and Butter Project, and EndoWA. He is passionate about empowering youth and educational equality.
